Peru becomes a COVID-19 hotspot as cases rise to 203,736

The South American country can be said to have been overwhelmed by the pandemic and has become the country with the eighth highest number of corona virus cases, as Peru’s ministry of health have recorded a stunning number of 203,736 citizens testing positive COVID-19, after recording more than 4,000 new cases yesterday, 9th June. The country currently has a death toll of 5,738, and 167 people have been recorded to have died in the last 24 hours from the virus. The virus is reported to have entered the country on 6th March 2020, and the President of the country Martin Vizcarra announced a nation-wide lockdown, closing borders, restricting domestic travel, and forbidding non-essential business operations, the country with a population of about 32 million is at danger of having a high risk of increasing cases.
