One Lilian Benedict of Bwaranji ward, Yola South Local government of Adamawa, a teenage girl said to be 19 years old, was reported to have died on Sunday, after being delivered of triplets.
This was made known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by Mrs. Josephine Geoffrey, Assistant Director, Nursing Services, Yola Specialist Hospital, on Tuesday in Yola.
Speaking on the cause of the teenager’s death, she said:
“She died as a result of bleeding after delivery and all the three babies are in good health condition, poverty and lack of early antenatal attendance also contributed to her death. We therefore, advise parents whose young daughters are pregnant to, as a matter of urgency, attend early antenatal to avoid unnecessary complications during childbirth.”
She equally beseeched the government, Non-Governmental Organizations and public- spirited individuals to come to the aid of the babies by providing food and drugs to ensure their survival. The mother of the deceased also pleaded with the government for the babies’ aid, saying the Lilian lost her father when she was just 8 years old.
The 26 year old boyfriend of the deceased, Taliba Kanakuru, expressed his pained emotions over her death, saying they had planned to get married after her delivery.
